ORIENTATIONS FOR THE FUNDING

The Programme will be implemented by way of two pre-defined projects.

1. Strengthening of Marine and Inland Water Management - Part I

Project promoter: Environmental Protection Agency

Maximum grant amount: €1,705,882

The aim of the project is the optimization of the monitoring and inventory system of hazardous substances in Lithuanian water bodies. The project shall consist of the following activities:

  • Development of inventories on hazardous substances emissions, discharges and losses into Lithuanian water bodies;
  • Revision and/or assessment of hazardous substances in Lithuanian water bodies; and
  • Establishment of an optimized monitoring programme.

2. Strengthening of Marine and Inland Water Management - Part II

Project promoter: Environmental Protection Agency

Maximum grant amount: €3,577,618

Theaim of the project is to improve the collection of data regarding biological water quality elements and the assessment of water quality; to assess the long-range trans-boundary air pollution and its impact on Lithuanian water bodies; and the implementation and assessment of effective measures for water status improvement. The project shall consist of the following activities:

  • Investigation of water quality problems and preparation of proposals for measures for risk water basins;
  • Collection of data regarding biological water quality elements and assessment of water quality;
  • Assessment of land cover changes;
  • Investigation and assessment of nutrients in theCuronian lagoon sediments, and its impact on water quality;
  • Annual assessments of the long-range trans boundary air pollution and its impact on water bodies, including the collection of
    relevant data;
  • Annual data collections and assessments of the impact of farming on water bodies;
  • Development of a modelling system for the evaluation of the impact of agricultural diffuse pollution on the water body and for
    the assessment of the impact of abatement measures on the water quality;
  • Establishment of a system for analysis, research and treatment of ballast waters;
  • Development of a methodology for the assessments of the damage done by hydropower plants;
  • Projects aimed at testing the effectiveness of water quality improvement measures;
  • Study on identification of causes on the status of the water of the Klaipeda seaport, and selection/development of measures to address it.

PROGRAMME PARTNER

The Donor Programme Partner is the Norwegian Environmental Agency.


BILATERAL RELATIONS

€117,647 of the total Programme budget set to a fund for bilateral relations.

Bilateral funds will be used to facilitate networking, exchange, sharing and transfer of knowledge, technology, experience and best practice between the Project Promoters and entities in the Donor States.
